BLACKRANGE KENNEL, owned by Angela Smith-Humpert, has been in business for over 30 years. Angela's foray into the dog fancy began as a Junior Handler showing family dogs in AKC conformation events. She went on to work for several professional handlers and began showing her own dogs while traveling with them. With her natural affinity for dogs and a gift for bringing out the best in them, she become a fine handler in her own right. Several years later, as a result of her success in handling dogs that would not show well for their owners, Angela began Blackrange Kennel.

Inspired by the land where she grew up in New Mexico and where "her heart and soul still reside", Angela built a successful handling business showing Terrier breeds. While showing an Australian Terrier, a breed that was not particularly well known, Angela handled this dog to the ultimate prize, Best in Show. Never discouraged by others who said it couldn't be done, Angela's ability to recognize a fine dog combined with her determination and expert handling skills, have enabled her to achieve great success in the show ring.

In 2000 Angela formed a partnership with Shauna Jones of Shalee Silkys. Her love of Terriers immediately drew her to this feisty "toy terrier". Angela handled numerous Silkys to their AKC Championships and has successfully campaigned Specials into the top ranking positions in the breed. As co-breeders Angela and Shauna have bred, and continue to produce, some of the top Silkys in the United States and Europe. They won Best of Breed at Crufts in 2003 and held the position of #1 Silky of Finland for 2 years with 2 different dogs.

Angela currently handles several Silkys for her clients along with a variety of other Terrier and Toy breeds. At the 2006 Silky Terrier Club of America National Specialty Angela was owner and handler for Winners Dog and Best Veteran Bitch.

BLACKRANGE KENNEL is a full service kennel offering boarding, grooming and professional handling specializing in Terrier and Toy breeds. Arrangements can be made to transport or ship dogs from any location within the United States.
